Peercoin itself is a proven blockchain with a perfect track record as a permanent ledger of transactions. Peercoin also lets users add a short inscription to each transaction. The inscription can be read by looking up that particular address. By using a Peercoin gateway, Peerscript.com enables developers to interact with the blockchain and to create web applications.

Peercoin was the first implementation of proof-of-stake as an eco-friendly way of minting new coins. Peercoin has been utilizing both proof-of-stake and proof-of-work systems since 2012.
Peercoin's use of proof-of-stake uses less energy than traditional proof-of-work cryptocurrencies. Peercoin is the first eco-friendly coin.
Peercoin generates deterministic tagged address that can be queried efficiently. Inscriptions written to those addresses are added as pending tranasctions to the Peercoin mempool. This so-called Pay-to-TagHash or P2TH costs 0.01 PPC per transaction.
Peercoin rewards holders who participate in staking to earn up to 5% a year in additional Peercoin. Unlike Bitcoin which has a limited supply of 21 million coins, Peercoin has a built-in inflation rate of around 2.2% currently.
